High School Student Summer Camp Counselor

High school students needing to attain volunteer hours for graduation, national honor society or gain valuable experience in the wildlife conservation and education field can apply below. Our summer camp counselor volunteers assist with our daily operations of Wildlife Encounters Summer Camp. Along with our Senior Camp Counselors you will help lead group activities, maintain a fun and safe experience for campers and learn to work with animal ambassadors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of summer camp activities and curriculum.

  • Interact with campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things and generally caring for their well-being. 

  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, skill achievement and general well being.  

  • Represents Wildlife Encounters in a positive manner by maintaining a positive attitude and delivering exceptional customer service.

  • Leading and supporting campers as they participate in camp activities.  

  • Serves as a team player to ensure the summer camp team reaches their goals. 

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Ability to walk comfortably and navigate summer camp ground.  Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled 9th thru 12th grade.

  • A strong interest in wildlife, early childhood education, science and/or nature education.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision

  • Excellent communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public

  • Ability to arrive at work on time and maintain a positive attendance record.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Energetic personality.

  • Very patient and understanding - you will be working with children so this is a must.  

  • Great time management skills.  

  • Comfortable around a variety of animals and wildlife.  

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
