Summer Camp Counselor

The Wildlife Summer Camp Counselor assists the summer camp director & staff in daily camp activities, wildlife educational presentations and hands-on animal interactions.  This paid internship can be applied towards college credit given approval from your professor or college. Pay range is $9-12 an hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of summer camp activities and curriculum.

  • Interact with campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things and generally caring for their well-being. 

  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, skill achievement and general well being.  

  • Represents Wildlife Encounters in a positive manner by maintaining a positive attitude and delivering exceptional customer service.

  • Leading and supporting campers as they participate in camp activities.  

  • Serves as a team player to ensure the summer camp team reaches their goals. 

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Ability to walk comfortably and navigate summer camp ground.  Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled in college or have obtained a college degree

  • A strong interest in wildlife, early childhood education, science and/or nature education.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision

  • Excellent communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public

  • Ability to arrive at work on time and maintain a positive attendance record.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Energetic personality.

  • Very patient and understanding - you will be working with children so this is a must.  

  • Great time management skills.  

  • Comfortable around a variety of animals and wildlife.  

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
